How to get there ..

From Villahermosa, it is possible to get to the Comalcalco Archaeological Zone from the highway Violet 180. Take 187 Comalcalco, go 2 km up the minor road to the settlement Independence, and this leads to the archaeological zone. The entire trip is 89 km.

It is also possible to cross the state highway that goes from Villahermosa to Nacajuca, Jalpa de Méndez to Comalcalco - an entire distance to the archaeological zone of 55 km. Origin It is the most western city of the Mayan area, and it developed during Ist century B.C. the 5th A.D.

Description

Comalcalco initiated the construction of its brick buildings in the 7th century A.D. having contact with the villages of Xochicalco, Uxmal and Tikal, and later in the 9th century A.D., with the Toltecas, Náhuas and Totonacas There are 282 registered constructions in Comalcalco, of which 105 are hillocks of rural room, 46 platforms of rural room, 62 residential platforms, 29 ceremonial platforms, 7 basements supporting constructions, 3 civil constructions and 4 platforms of specialized functions.

Comalcalco is typical of the classic period and late Mayan: a large ceremonial center surrounded with definite well sets which are related to platforms and outlying hillocks, of mixed designation for both ceremonial and residential use.
